Group role reporting directly into CISO, as Head of Security Operations, this role focuses on the oversight of overall activities within the information security function including InfoSec operations, continuity, information, and data security.

We're looking for a strong leader within information security who has had large security operational responsibility.  The security landscape within this organisation has been built, we're looking for a Head of Security Operations who can guide this towards operational excellence. 

We're looking for a security leader who has had experience of operational and procedural improvement and knows what good looks like to be able to guide and shape the function towards maturity of the security services, which includes building a security service layer around the group functions.

Priorities include defining a service catalogue that sets out the security service with service levels and service metrics.  This will include identifying areas for improvements.  Chairing committee meetings and providing the security narrative using dashboards as part of governance meetings, including key stakeholders within the business so this is a visible role requiring a love of data and how data can help tell the story of security service.  This information will be used as part of basic health checks and establishing sensors that say everything is ok because there is nothing going on.

Experience of transformation and improvement within a security function is needed and attaining security operational excellence thinking along the lines of security service delivery, service management, reporting metrics and understanding of the challenges that may be faced around maturing security services.

With 10 direct reports, including a team based overseas, ability to successfully lead and develop a team remotely is required as well as in person.  Within this role, up to a quarter of your time will be expected to be spent on providing guidance to your team and developing their skills.

Other responsibilities will be 3rd party vendor management.  The SOC is outsourced so experience of managing a team of security analysts as part of a managed SOC service / MSSP's is needed, including periodic vendor evaluation.

This is a high level, visible role within the business and will require:

  • Previous experience of managing a security operations function within a large, complex IT environment
  • Excellent knowledge of IT Services and technical platforms including Windows based environments
  • ISO 27001 and NIST 
  • Security related KPI's, KRI's and defining security operations reporting
  • ITIL
  • Business continuity and disaster recovery processes

My client operates at the highest level; therefore, we are looking for an IT Security leader that lives and breathes security, has an all-round technical knowledge of IT infrastructure, networks, server and software and with in-depth experience on cyber security threats, vulnerabilities and solutions combined with exceptional soft skills to liaise with different internal departments as well as senior management and senior stakeholders.

Based West Midlands/Kent offering hybrid working - 3 days on site, 2 days off.  Salary between £105,000 - £118,000.
